I am applying for the Game art & design program but I was wondering what I need to show in my portfolio?|
I also was wondering if it was hard to get into this program?
I really hope I get accepted!!!
Does anyone know the price of off campus housing because I'm married.
And.. I hope to make some friends on here incase I get accepted:) and to chat too!
Not sure if there's anything specific they want to see from GAD majors, but in general it's good to show a good deal of life drawing, inventive illustrations, paintings... basically anything you do that will prove you have the talent or potential to succeed in the program. If you're good with realistic art, focus on that. I imagine that stuff like character design and major-specific art (like level/environment design) would be appreciated if it's of a high quality, but get a second opinion on that, as I'm only guessing. Avoid anime-style characters.
I'm a senior Computer Animation student, so whatt I know is based on that and the fact that it's been like 4 years since I submitted mine, but feel free to ask more questions and I'm sure I'll remember more.
I just stumbled upon this lj page. I'm very interested in Ringling.
But I've been wondering... why is anime-style no good?
This is a pretty delayed response, but I figured this needed answering.
Teachers want to see a solid foundation in life drawing, as it is the basis for all figurative art--anime included. They want to see realistic rendering because if you know how to correctly draw a person, then you can easily exaggerate and contort the correct form into something more unique. Something strictly anime style, however, does not always show a knowledge of life drawing (although all the best anime artists have studied it).
That's basically how I always viewed it. /shrug
